Meet our goofy boy Osito! Osito is an English Labrador and weighs in at a whopping 90lbs. All the dogs in Ositos lineage are either service or therapy and some are also show dogs. English Labradors are larger than typical Labradors which is why we chose this breed. He is big and strong but also very lazy. He typically falls asleep in the middle of everything, including our drum circle.
We have a flock of 26 Coturnix quail, which we breed right here at preschool as part of our hands-on nature curriculum. Coturnix quail aren't known for sitting on their eggs, so we use an incubator and a heat-controlled brooder box, giving the children a front-row seat to the hatching process and early stages of chick development. The experience is not only educational but deeply meaningful—each child gets to name a bird, forming a personal connection and fostering empathy, responsibility, and wonder.

He was maybe 2 weeks old and already quite the character. We smuggled him across the border and thought he would be a feral cat just like his littermates. He is a social butterfly and waits outside to greet the families in the morning, naps the rest of the day and then waits for people in the early evening to greet him. He has quite the following in our neighborhood and we often see people taking selfies with him!
Miss Owl is another cat my son adopted from the local shelter. She is a tiny little lady weighing in at just 6.5 lbs! She is tiny but mighty and bosses Osito around. She is the most docile cat, allows anyone to pick her up and snuggle.
Jackie is a very social bunny and very opinionated. If we do not put down veggies at lunch, she will steal right from the kids hands! She took off with a peanut butter sandwich one day so we now make sure she has her plate of food too!
Each piece is displayed so the children can talk about their art, and show pride in their work and respect for their piece and their classmates' work as well.
We support the creative process by having themes and a prompt to begin the art process. We talk about the elements of art in project so children have an understanding of the building blocks of creation.
Art is a huge part of our program. We focus on the act of making, experimenting, and discovering.
OSITO: He is an English Labrador who comes from a line of service and therapy dogs. He has natural traits as a therapy dog being very sweet and tolerant. As part of his training, he provides pressure therapy by giving a paw, a lean or a lay on your lap. He is the sweetest dog always looking to please anyone he meets.

These are our self-portrait mobiles. We randomly cut various shapes of cardboard and the children picked each piece to represent their face. They decorated and painted each tiny piece, told us how they wanted them to hang and the teachers helped tie them to a wood dowel. If you look closely, you will see the intricate detail and how everyone is very different.
We installed a 10' wide stainless steel board to mount our art projects and murals on. We rotate our murals every few months creating various pieces that coordinate together for the children to view.
Our latest piece is a puzzle. Each child is given a puzzle-shaped piece to decorate and paint as they wish. We also discuss what a mural is by pointing out various pieces in our own neighborhood and reading books on being a Muralist.
